A guy at Christina’s office was laid off on Monday. I know this happens all of the time. He has been working for the company for over 16 years. I can’t imagine what it would be like spending your entire career with a company and then being laid off. But here’s the kicker, he was let go because they “realized” that they didn’t need him. This revelation occurred while he was out of the office for two weeks on vacation and nobody missed him. True the workload is down and the department was going to be downsizing, but if he was still in the office and somebody else was on vacation would it have been them instead?
Don’t go on vacation if you are not busy! If you leave the office and they “discover” that they don’t need you, you might be gone before you get back. Only take vacations when you are really, really busy so the whole time you are gone everybody is constantly reminded of how important you are.
* Okay I have my sarcasm fix for the day now.
