Sun Acquires MySQL

My head almost exploded this morning when I read the news…

Sun’s announcement makes perfect sense and perfectly follows what they have been up to lately with ZFS, StorageTek, Niagra, etc… but I am still completely stunned and speechless.

My hat goes off to Jonathan Schwartz. As a SUN user for more than a decade I had all but written the platform/company off two years ago as no longer relevant. What an amazing turnaround. I’ve been recommending to my customers that they seriously look at the Sun servers over Dell and HP. Evaluate the Cool Threads over Intel. And demo a Thumper before buying NetApp.

Congratulations to all involved - this is truly massive.

Sick on New Years

I thought I was going to escape it this year. For the first time in eight years I thought I dodged a bullet and wasn’t going to be sick on New Years. Christina woke up on the 31st with a cold, and this afternoon I came down with what seems to be the flu. At least we are consistent.
